Our Curriculum
At Royal Redeemer Christian Preschool in Liberty Township, we view curriculum as everything that happens during our time together with the children. We believe that each moment offers an opportunity to explore relationships and create a community that nurtures children, teachers, and families. We are committed to nurturing the whole child socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and spiritually.
PRESCHOOL (3-5 years old)
In the preschool classes, children are engaged in a play based, child-centered creative curriculum that integrates literacy, math, science, the arts, motor development, social skills and Christian beliefs and values into all parts of the child’s day. Our curriculum provides age-appropriate, high quality academics based on standards derived from current research on child development and the State of Ohio Early Learning Content Standards. It presents a continuum of learning and development in the following domains:
- Social And Emotional Development
- Motor Development
- Language and Literacy
- Cognition and General Knowledge
We follow a play-based, child-centered creative curriculum, which is developmentally appropriate for young children—your child will have plenty of time for worksheets later in life! Students are allowed (and encouraged) to be kids: playing, creating, pretending, and exploring. If you walk into one of our classrooms on any given day, you will see our teachers on the floor, playing and interacting with the children. Our students—and teachers—engage in activities like dramatic play, blocks, and active outdoor play on a daily basis. These activities are integrated into various themes and lessons.
Our Kinder Ready program is a traditional classroom environment. However, our low student-to-teacher ratio allows us to create a more individualized program and meet the needs of each and every student. We place a strong emphasis on building a solid foundation for future academic and social success through our “whole child” approach to teaching.
Here at Royal Redeemer Christian Preschool, we work hard to instill a lifelong love of reading through our literacy-rich environment. Not only does each classroom have a cozy reading area, but there are numerous opportunities for reading and writing throughout the entire classroom. For example, items like markers, glue, and crayons are all labeled with both a picture and word. Each classroom also has a writing center, and books can be found throughout the classrooms.
Emotional and social development is critical for children. Emotional development involves students learning to recognize and understand his or her own feelings, as well as the feelings of his or her peers. Our teachers help students learn to manage “big” feelings and their corresponding behavior. We build self-esteem by encouraging children to try new things, and our teachers work hard to teach the students to respect one another and work together. By playing and learning together, the students build social skills, language skills, and self-control. Conflict is a part of life, even with children, and learning how to problem-solve in social situations is a critical life lesson. When conflicts among children arise, we get down on their level—literally—and help them work through the conflict or problem. Our teachers use positive speech and are loving and responsive to each child’s needs.
Christian values are reflected in our daily activities. Our lessons work to foster love and kindness. The students all have a regular chapel time with a pastor and Bible stories on a weekly basis. Through different community outreach programs, we help the children understand that kindness and giving do not begin and end at our school doors. As a school, we participate in Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes, Reach Out Lakota and other age-appropriate activities.
We fully recognize and understand the importance of the entire family being involved in the education of small children. We communicate with parents via our drop-off and pick-up procedures, as well as using different technology-based avenues. The whole family is included in our program with activities throughout the school year. For example, we have a Mother’s Day Tea, Donuts with Dad, and a Christmas Program, among other fun activities. Parents are always welcome in our classrooms.
The teachers and staff at Royal Redeemer Christian Preschool are committed to creating a loving and nurturing environment for your child to thrive. Our teachers are dedicated to the success of our students, passionate about education, enthusiastic, creative, and flexible. Most importantly, they have a great sense of humor, a necessary attribute when working with small children!
